GSA General Assembly Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date:  November 14, 2007

Meeting Time:  7:08 - 8:44 p.m., HGS 119 A&B

I.  Additions to the Agenda

  • Liz Williams - two Health Care Committee meetings took place - the internal one and the one with GPSS.
  • Joint meeting with GSA, GPSS, and YCC.  Discussed what happened at the Ivy League Summit.  Some other schools have subsidies set up for birth control and also have reduced prices for the HPV vaccine, Gardasil.
  • Three approached have been devised:  1. Talk to the administration; 2. Talk to YUHS; 3. Carry out an Education Campaign to help people understand the problem and identify the cheapest alternatives.
  • The Education Campaign will involve flyers, a website (including information about the actions being taken by Congress), and also articles in the YDN.  Liz’s job is the website.
  • Several YDN articles on these issues have been published already by other contributors (who did not appear to be affiliated with organizations), so there is likely support for these issues.
  • There is also potential to talk with the Courant.
  • The Medical Advisory Committee meeting involved discussion regarding access to care and appointments.  The view is that they have done what they can with the current facility as far as optimizing the length of appointment waits.  The new building should improve this.
  • Liz asked about the women’s health issue, but this was not discussed.
  • She plans to bring them information about the other Ivy League schools.
  • They also want to bring Mental Health representatives in to discuss wait times in that area.

II.  Discussion with Jon Butler, Dean of the Graduate School

  • For more information, please contact the secretary, Laura Thomas.

III.  Tabled Until the Next Meeting

  • Departmental Meetings (Music)
  • Mentoring Week Follow-Up Committee
  • Mc Dougal Lighting
