Over a year ago there was an oversight in a Congressional
spending bill that resulted in a significant increase in the price of birth
control provided through university health centers. The result is that many
students are now paying four (or more!) times as much for their birth control
as they were paying prior to this fall. The most effective and wide-reaching
solution will be to have Congress enact a bill that will remedy the oversight.
The simple fact that there needs to be a vote on the issue, since it must
pass as part of a bill, means that you have a chance to make your voice heard
and tell our Congressional representatives that this issue needs to be
addressed; there are no concrete assurances that it will definitely pass,
right now. Links to online comment
forms for our representatives from New Haven are included below, and there is also a document that you can download that contains letters that you are welcome to modify and send. Representative DeLauro is already a champion for this cause, but neither of our Senators currently support the bills that have been proposed. If you are registered to vote in another state you are
welcome to alter the letter as necessary and send it along.
