Cell Biology GSA Department Representatives Hannah Chapin and Elisabeth Wurtmann held a meeting for Cell Biology graduate students on October 26, 2007.  The reps shared information on upcoming GSA events during Mentoring Week, ongoing GSA programs such as the Conference Travel Fund, and current GSA initiatives such as on health care issues.  Concerns from students were discussed as well, especially opportunities for informal mentoring.  The MCGD track has a Faculty Friend program and the BBS program has had a peer mentoring program in the past; students suggested ways to improve both of these programs and the reps plan to follow-up on these ideas.  Also, teaching opportunities were discussed, in particular the at times difficult process of getting desirable assignments in other departments.  The DGS for Cell Biology, Carl Hashimoto, participated in the meeting and also provided students with an update on the search for a new Chair of the Department.  Thanks to those in attendance, and please contact hannah.chapin@yale.edu or elisabeth.wurtmann@yale.edu with any concerns or ideas!
